Jubilee Church Statement of Faith
- We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men, and the Divine, the only, and absolute authority for all Christian faith and life.
(Psalm 119; Matthew 5:17-18; Matthew 24:2, 35; Luke 4:4; John 10:35; Acts 1:16; Acts 3:18; Romans 1:16; Romans 10:17; Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21)
- We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
(Genesis 1:1, 26; Isaiah 40:28; Matthew 28:19; Mark 1:9-11; John 1:1-3; Acts 1:5; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
- We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. Further, He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Majesty on High, He now is our High Priest and Advocate.
(Isaiah 53; Matthew 1:18-21; Luke 1:35; John 1:1-18; John 3:16-19; John 4:42; Acts 4:12; Galatians 1:6-9; Ephesians 1:20-21; Philippians 2:8-11; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9; 1 Timothy 2:5-6; Hebrews 1:3; Hebrews 4:14-15)
- We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and, during this age, to convict men, regenerate the believing sinner, and indwell, guide, instruct, and empower the believer for godly living and service.
(Matthew 3:16; Luke 4:1, 18-19; John 3:6-8; John 7:37-39; John 14:16-17; John 15; 26-27; John 16:8-15; Acts, 1:5, 8; Acts 4:31; Romans 8:9-11; 1 Corinthians 2:4; 1 Corinthians 12:3-31; 2 Corinthians 3:17-18; Galatians 5:22-23; 1 Thessalonians 5:19; 2 Thessalonians 2:13)
- We believe that man was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is therefore lost and only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained.
(Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 3; John 3:3-6; Romans 1:18-32; Romans 3:10, 23; Romans 5:12-17; 2 Thessalonians 2:13)
- We believe that the blood (the death) of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and only such as receive Jesus Christ, are born of the Holy Spirit, and thus become children of God.
(Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 3; John 3:3-6; Romans 3:21-26; Romans 5:9; Romans 8:16; 1 Corinthians 15:17-22; 2 Thessalonians 2:13; 1 Peter 3:21)
- We believe that baptism and the Lord’s Supper are ordinances to be observed by the church during the present age, but they are not to be regarded as means of salvation.
(Matthew 3:13-15; Matthew 26:26-28; Luke 22:14-20; Acts 8:34-39; 1 Corinthians 11:17-34; Ephesians 2:8-9)
- We believe that the true Church is composed of all such persons who through saving faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the body of Christ of which He is the Head.
(1Corinthians 12:12-31; Ephesians 1:22-23; Ephesians 4:1-16; Ephesians 5:23, 29)
- We believe that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Head of the Church. This statement is made specifically concerning our belief in the importance of unity in the universal church; that every local church has both the need and responsibility of accountability and encouragement.
(1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 1:15-23; Ephesians 4:1-16; Ephesians 5:23; Colossians 1:15-18)
- We believe that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Head of the church. This statement is made specifically concerning our belief that due to the specific needs of particular contexts, every local church has the responsibility, under Christ, to decide and govern its own affairs.
(1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 1:15-23; Ephesians 4:1-16; Ephesians 5:23; Colossians 1:15-18)
- We believe that only those who believe in Jesus Christ as the Lord of their lives and the Savior from their sins shall be eligible for membership in the local church.
(1 Corinthians 1:1; 2 Corinthians 8:1-5; Ephesians 1:1; Ephesians 4:1-16; Philippians 1:1; 1 Timothy 3:15)
- We believe that it is the duty of all Christians to congregate regularly in the local church context (as much as it is made possible; i.e.- persecution) for the purpose of both corporate and individual maturity in Christ, through active participation and commitment to the full affairs of the local church (i.e.- worship, fellowship, discipleship, service and missions).
(John 13:34-35; Acts 2:42-47; Acts 4:32-35; 1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 4:1-16; Philippians 4:14; Galatians 6:2; Hebrews 10:24-25)
- We believe in the imminent coming of the glorified Lord Jesus Christ to consummate His Kingdom and that this hope has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer.
(Matthew 28: 18-20; Mark 13:10; Mark 14:62; Acts, 1:8-11; Philippians 3:12-14; Hebrews 9:28; Hebrews 12:1-3; 2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21:1-5)
- We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead: of the believer to everlasting life and communion with the Lord, of the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment.
(Matthew 25:46; 1 Corinthians 15: 35-54; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Hebrews 10:26-31; Revelation 20:11-15; Revelation 21:1-5)
APPENDIX
Additional information/elaboration on the points stated.
- a. Revelation comes in other forms as well (Holy Spirit’s prompting in nature, exhortation, prayer, etc.) but the authority in revelation is in God’s word.
b. Scripture is without error in the sense that there could be textural errors in translation from past/current scholarship, but we believe there is no error in it’s original language, context, and intention.
- The role of the Holy Spirit in His fullness was not revealed in the Old Testament in the same way it was revealed in the New Testament. We believe, though, that the Holy Spirit is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
- We understand and accept that Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation by grace through faith in His resurrection (Gal. 2:15-17). We also understand that there must be a conscious choice made to accept Christ by each individual which will result in transformation of our lives from worldly ways (Luke 13:1-8; James 2:24). Our actions reveal our heart; whether we have truly accepted Christ as Savior and whether we truly love Him. In this, it is Jesus who will complete the good work He started in us (Philippians 1:6).
- Since we are an inter-denominational church, we will accept infant baptism if you have also been confirmed in the church as a believer. Jubilee Church will conduct a believer’s baptism of full immersion only.
Jubilee Church takes communion on the first Sunday of every month.
- Jubilee Church supports female leadership in the church. Although there are areas in Scripture that express the necessity of submission of women in the church (1 Cor. 14:33-35; 1 Tim 2:11-12), we believe it is contextual, addressing church order of that generation rather than universal order since the writer of those letters, Paul, also acknowledged female leaders in the church elsewhere in Scripture (Acts 18:18; Ro. 16:3; 2 Tim 1:5; 2 Tim. 4:19). There are also other examples of female leadership in the Bible (Ex. 15; Esther).
*For further elaboration concerning the aforementioned statements of faith, you can refer to the statements of faith as developed by the Lausanne Congress on World Evangelism through their historic Lausanne I and Lausanne II conferences. These statements of faith are called respectively, the Lausanne Covenant and the Manila Manifesto (the Manila Manifesto can be considered the companion document for the Lausanne Covenant). Jubilee Church supports the doctrinal statements of the Lausanne Covenant and the Manila Manifesto as prepared by the Lausanne Congress (www.lausanne.org).
