Evan Jhung
Pastor-in-Training (Children's Ministry)

Email: evan.jhung@myjubileechurch.com

Birthday:
July 26, 1978

Where you were born:
Born in Calgary then grew up in Toronto since I was four (these are Canadian cities, just in case)

Married to:
Single

Siblings:
One older sister

Educational Background:

  • York University- Bachelor of Arts, Economics with concentration in International Trade, 1998-2002
  • Torch Trinity Graduate School of Theology- C ompleting studies in Masters of Divinity (M.Div) with concentration in Church Ministry, 2007- present

Favorite Bible passage/verse:
My favourite one lately is, “…he who was a free man when he was called is Christ's slave. You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men. “ – 1 Cor 7:22-23

When You're not working/spending time with your family, you like to...
Spend way too much time on my laptop organizing these icons that don’t stop building up on the screen. Then I perform these long virus checks while I’m staring blankly at the screen, day-dreaming. After that I usually pick up my guitar and start singing and make all my neighbours really (un)happy.

Life Story:
Still in progress. Please come back again. Or better yet, come to our Church and ask me there and I’ll tell you all about it. But I’ll tell you up front that you’ll be getting a lot of news about my Lord, Jesus if you ask that question because He is in fact, the story of my life.

Vision for Jubilee Church:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” – Luke 4:18-19. This is our theme verse and I believe this to be a great calling and purpose to fulfill for all of us. Jubilee should be a church to foster individuals into being more Christ-like through worship, sound biblical understanding, fellowship and unity in Christ, and acts of service coming out from faith. Through this and by living out Luke 4:18 and 19 may more and more people come to the saving graces of Jesus, and His Kingdom of Heaven increase even more.

Special Talents:
I can hold my breath for a pretty long time, and I apply this when I swim. I’m not all that good at swimming though, more like a really good under-water mover.

Something people don't know about you:
For the most part I’m usually pretty laid-back, but I have a side of me that most people don’t know where I can get a bit particular about certain things, and I even admire this quality in others just as long as they aren’t always like that about everything.

Favorite Saying:
Walking in the garden in the cool of the day...

Favorite Quote:
Better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.

Childhood Dream:
Either to be a ninja, or Optimus Prime.

Favorite personal feature:
I don’t know why, but I have pretty soft hands. I mean I work hard when I have to but no matter what my hands will heal (like Wolverine heal) and get soft again. I think most people that know this about my hands get grossed out. If you’re like one of them, instead of a handshake when we meet next time just pound that you know. No problem.

What you want people to know about you:
Before I didn’t, but now I love God with everything I’ve got and for the rest of the time I have here I’m going to love Him more and more, and I want to do this together with you, my brothers and sisters of this faith right alongside everybody else who will be joining soon. To be singing together Hallelujah to Jesus for the Cross – for forgiveness, for salvation, for eternal life and giving Him all the glory, the praise, the honour – nothing beats that, and nothing ever will. Hallelujah!

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor:
Hands down, vanilla-coconut by Haagen Daaz.

How you want to be remembered:
I want to be remembered by my brothers and sisters as the kind of man of faith that would lay down my own life so that they may be well and increase more in their faith. If ever God chooses this over my life literally, so be it and may God be glorified. If not, let my heart still hold fast forever to this calling of willingness to lay down my life for my brother or sister because of my love for them which comes only from the Holy Spirit of God.

Donne's Batter My Heart

Batter my heart, three-person'd God, for you
As yet but knock, breathe, shine, and seek to mend;
That I may rise and stand, o'erthrow me, and bend
Your force to break, blow, burn, and make me new.
I, like an usurp'd town to another due,
Labor to'admit you, but oh, to no end;
Reason, your viceroy in me, me should defend,
But is captiv'd, and proves weak or untrue.
Yet dearly'I love you, and would be lov'd fain,
But am betroth'd unto your enemy;
Divorce me, untie or break that knot again,
Take me to you, imprison me, for I,
Except you enthrall me, never shall be free,
Nor ever chaste, except you ravish me.

"a wady pweacha"

tender heart

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor:
matcha

Life Story:
I was raised as a PK (Pastor’s Kid) but never really accepted the fullness of God’s grace until after I’ve had my share of unnecessary prodigal experiences. God’s grace brought me to a deeper realization of my sins and therefore brokenness is the character in which I proudly bear on my chest. Life has never been so good!! PTL!!!

Vision for Jubilee Church:
I want to see Jubilee Church grow to its fullest potential by remaining sensitive to the direction of the Holy Spirit. Being that we are a transient community, I hope that Jubilee can stand firm in training and equipping leaders to bear witness to the power and the hope in Jesus Christ. More than growing to be a mega church, I want to see lives being transformed and brought to the saving grace of Jesus where the word of God will be preached and taught effectively with wisdom convicting the soul. I want to see the pastors and leaders exercise their roles and responsibilities in a humble manner serving the purpose of Gods will above their own. And I want to see Jubilee Church create an atmosphere centered on Christ’s love!!! Amen!!!
